a little roving

i am working on my own roving, putting together colors at random, with absolutely no planning at all.  i love how the colors come out all jumbled and swirly.  i still haven't spun any of it yet, but i'm enjoying the process of just. making. the. roving.  very relaxing.  wondering if roving would be a good thing to carry in my etsy shoppe when i eventually get around to opening it again?  yes, maybe i will.  thinking about it.  i still have to find time to design labels and packaging and all those good things that make giving and receiving things in the mail so worth it.

i am besotted with this store.  so cute.

when is it really going to be summer?

bottle rocket, wine with the neighbors, ice cold pools, overcast gray drippy skies, chicken taquitos with homemade guacamole + salsa, strange invisible perfume, bright orange scooters with baskets, bingo, box o fun, skateboard camp, new brakes, vintage bird houses, late nights.

it's july.  why is it still gloomy outside?  i like it, but it doesn't really feel like summer, in the way that i remember it, yet.  this weather makes me want to stay indoors and we should be out at the beach, playing cards and sucking on popcicles, donning sunglasses, dripping with sweat and dipping our toes in the ocean.

our world:

ice cream trucks.  tacos.  blazing heat.  cool breezes.  scooters.  long mornings.  iced coffee.  hours of reading.  sandy feet.  lat-er nights.  fireworks at odd hours.  smiles from strangers.

progress

i got the kids stamps too.  theirs say "hand made by" + their name.  so cute.  i have this idea to make them stamps from their own drawings as a gift for a birthday or special occasion. 

today it is supposed to rain.  i am watching the thunderheads, waiting.

for those of you who love polaroids + romance, this mini-movie (6 minutes) is so inspiring it brings joyful tears to my eyes.  have you seen it?  thank you persisting stars e-course for showing me this.  so sweet.

garden notes

we pulled chard and other greens from the garden and combined them with fried onions and garlic and butternut squash (from our csa box) and cream and cheese to make the "cream of whatever" soup gillian suggested.  incredible.  

we also harvested a whole bunch of purple potatoes today from a container we had thought produced nothing.  what a welcome surprise! 

i love these seeds + this apron for gardening.

from our garden

i think you can just slice these raw and put them in a salad, but, frankly, i have no idea.  we have loads of them.

ok, wait.  i just looked them up here and now i'm thinking they might be turnips// ?  i'm not sure because we have been very bad about our garden notes and lost/threw away the envelope.  (!!!)  i think i will make an effort to keep a garden journal in the future.  in any case, there are recipes for either one here.

cashmere

for my shoppe.  soon-ish.  next week i will begin working on all the labels and things i need to make my shoppe items complete.  my kids have been inspired to start their own "shoppes"  as well.  yesterday, my son traded me an entire jar of marbles for an old deck of my tarot cards.  a pretty good deal.  i love marbles.  i love cards, too, but i couldn't resist the marbles.

the moon is nearly full (two more nights).  last night it's brightness penetrated the sky, surrounding it with an enormous ring.  did you see it?  i didn't take a photo.  i just admired it and wondered who else happened to be looking.

today i have my cello exams.  fingers crossed...

getting ready to watch:  thirst

as soon as i finish watching:  season 4 of lost (i am wayyyy behind)

kind of drooling about:  this chest of drawers but really wanting to find something vintage and less expensive, so we'll probably scout the flea markets this weekend instead, if it isn't raining.

so sad to be missing: the performance of cellist alisa weilerstein that we were planning to attend.  oh well.

shoppe re-opening soon

for the next few days i will be working furiously to produce a few items for my shoppe in an effort to raise money to support the earthquake survivors in haiti.  i feel compelled to do more than that, but i'm not sure where to begin.  what a tragedy.  my heart and prayers go out to all the families there.
