i hope you had a marvelous holiday and new year!
there is so much to share but it's a rather busy week getting settled back into our routines, + i've been baking and just generally staying away from the computer!! (i'm nervous, perhaps, about my resolution to organize my digital photos...? gak!!)
but here's a quick photo of the bouche de noel we made for xmas dinner. what a fun project! the recipe was so intimidating and i had to re-do the frosting twice because i let the sugar syrup get too hot, but it was sooo worth it to watch the kids decorate the "log" with the meringue mushrooms and sprinkle powdered sugar on sprigs of rosemary and rasberries (to look like snow) and just add all their little touches that made it so magical. and now i feel like i can cook ANYTHING! well... almost. it was a long process, making the cake. i mean, commitment. and you really had to pay attention to the directions. which was g r e a t because i had to set all other distractions aside and just focus on the cake and the experience of making the cake. and the kids helped when they wanted and walked away when they wanted and i would just carry on making the cake. and it was marvelous! it cleared my mind and my soul like knitting or spinning yarn or working in the garden often does. i can see this becoming a beautiful family tradition. many, many thanks to my dear friend maud who encouraged me and stopped by to bring family recipes!!
:)
btw, i'm reading the happiness project (got it for xmas!) and i love it a n d i'm reading another great book: simplicity parenting. have you seen it? very, very inspiring. it turns out the author is coming to speak at our school in march! what luck!
take care!

Hi! I'm Poppy and I'm on The Abounding River play group with you. Maya told me to check out your blog and I love the cake, just beautiful. I'm a waldorf mom as well and we live in a really cool community that I blog about often. Love all your creativity and your input!

Hi Poppy! Thanks so much for visiting my blog and for saying such sweet things! Your community sounds like heaven. We have an amazing community of like-minded parents at the school but most of our neighbors live and think and raise their children so differently than we do. So I love, love meeting people like you that I can relate and talk to (thanks Maya for the connection!). I will definitely peruse your blog at my leisure later, once the kids are down. Just that first glimpse of the Meyer lemon cookie recipe has me itching for more!!
Happy, happy new year and so nice meeting you!
