we are officially intolerably homesick. aspen has been glorious. stunning. riveting. it is truly one of the most beautiful places i've ever been to. there is sooo much to do here. and the mountains you are surrounded by are magnificent, to say the least. but. three weeks is a long time to be separated from home and family and friends and we are just ready to go home.
luckily we go back tomorrow!
for the weekend.
and then marley and i are off to cello camp for her, for a week. sigh. one more week of dorm rooms, cafeteria food and having to use the community bathroom down the hall. ick. sorry, but ick. cello is worth it, though. it is.
i am finding things online like this delicious quilt pattern that i wish i could be working on with all the yummy stacks of fabric i have sitting at home in my studio. i am sooo itching to be in my little creative room surrounded by yarn and wool and cloth and different colors of thread and my blythe dolls and all my cameras. soon, soon.
it has been a very good experience for me to separate myself from those things i find so comforting and just be elsewhere, with limited amounts of stuff, playing with my children and hiking and biking and being outside. it has. but i miss it. and i'm sure when i finally return home, i will be missing aspen a great deal and all its magic. it's pretty magical, this place.
today the kids and i took a lazy stroll through a weedy, overgrown, wildflower filled ancient cemetary into town and found an incredible butcher shop that serves the most sensational shrimp cocktail and italian submarine sandwiches and brownies. mmm. and then we made our way to what has become my favorite coffee shop (where i've been perched every morning this week drinking coffees and eating cheese danishes and scribbling away in my notebook while the kids attended a skateboard camp in a setting you wouldn't believe) and bought fresh squeezed lemonades and a fantastic latte and perfectly made chocolate croissants. it is all about good food, i tell ya. and then we played in the park for a bit and meandered through more streets and finally ended up at the local children's library pouring through stacks and stacks of books. i couldn't ask for a more perfect day.
i hope you are having wonderful summer adventures as well, wherever you are.
take care *
